On November 3, 2008 Southern Dominion will open its first dental facility, SDHS Family Dentistry.  SDHS Family Dentistry will be located in Victoria, VA which is in Lunenburg County. 

Meet the Staff:

The dental clinic staff will consist of Dr. Calysta Beatty, Kitty Elsaesser (Dental Assistant), Holly Scheier (Dental Hygienist), and Wendy Kolb (dental receptionist/biller). 

Dr. Beatty, a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry is originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Kitty Elsaesser has been a dental assistant for more than thirty years and is a proud resident of Lunenburg County.  Holly Scheier is a 2005 graduate with honors in dental hygiene from Virginia Western Community College and a 2006 graduate in Infiltration Anesthesia from Midlands Technical College. She is originally from South Boston, VA.  Wendy Kolb has been with SDHS for over a year working as a receptionist/biller in the Dept. of Financial Services at the Lunenburg Medical Center.  She has previous experience working in a dental office and is also a proud resident of Lunenburg County. 

Tell me more about the facility…

The dental clinic will be housed in the old Lunenburg Medical Center building across the street from the new center.  The office will feature state of the art dental equipment including a portable handheld x-ray unit with digital imaging to help with patient comfort and digital patient records.  There will be three operatories, one for dental hygiene and two for dental procedures. 

What exactly does a dental hygienist do?

Dental hygienists remove soft and hard deposits from teeth, teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene, and provide other preventive dental care.  They examine patients' teeth and gums, recording the presence of diseases and abnormalities. 

Who is eligible for services at the dental clinic?

Everyone!  There are many residents living in Lunenburg County and surrounding areas in need of dental care.  SDHS Family Dentistry will accept all dental insurance including Medicaid and will also offer a sliding fee scale for those individuals without insurance. 

Is there an age limit for dental services?

Dental services will be available for everyone ages 3 years and up. 

What are some examples of services that will be provided?

The staff at the dental clinic is committed to providing quality dental care and patient education.  Services will include: 

• Regular dental cleanings and check-ups
• Sealants to prevent cavities
• Fluoride treatments
• Oral Hygiene Instruction
• Extractions
• Fillings
• Complete and Partial Dentures
