It is an honor and a privilege to serve the 59,532 people living in our Lunenburg, Amelia, Dinwiddie and Emporia communities.  Southern Dominion Health System (SDHS) has provided quality comprehensive primary care services to our patients since 1984.  Over the last quarter century, SDHS has responded to additional patient needs by adding several primary care services, including:

  • Diagnostic laboratory and radiologic services
  • Preventive services including prenatal services
  • Cancer and other disease screening services
  • Well child services
  • Immunizations against vaccine-preventable diseases
  • Screenings for elevated blood lead levels
  • Communicable diseases and cholesterol
  • Eye, ear and dental screening for children
  • Family planning and preventive dental services
  • Emergency medical and dental services
  • Medication assistance services
  • And mental health, substance abuse and community training services.

It is our mission to provide quality, focused, cost effective, family-based health services with dignity and respect to all people, without regard to their finances, culture or lifestyle and to provide the information and support to promote their participation in health care decisions.  We are proud of our staff of medical, dental and mental health providers for their professional excellence and personal friendliness.  We believe in the value of word-of-mouth growth and understand that earning your confidence is critical to continued success.  Healthcare is judged by the quality, compassion and efficiency of those providing the care.  We have a strong track record of growth, reflecting the dedication of our healthcare staff.  SDHS enjoyed a 25% increase in patients from 2007 to 2009, while state and national trends were only 18% and 17% respectively.  I started as the Mental Health Director in 2009 and do not overestimate my importance as CEO.  In order to continue our success, I need the informed support and guidance of our committed Board of Directors; the technical assistance, collaboration and expertise of the SDHS managers; the ideas, support and continued excellence from the providers and support personnel; guidance and technical assistance from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA); and most of all the feedback and suggestions from the patients we all serve.

We are always looking for ways to improve the health care experience our patients receive.  I invite you to please let us know if there is anything we can do to better serve your needs.  We are here to serve you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Scott Davis, CEO
